Army blacksmith and forge, Antietam, Md., September 1862. - Cavalry Section



Description: There is a union army blacksmith at work surrounded by horses and other men.
Details: These men look like they are working hard. Since they are blacksmiths they are probably making and repairing irons.

Diplomats at the foot of an unidentified waterfall, New York State, August 1863- Foreign Observers Section



Description: There are 12 men in this picture. these men are enjoying the view of the waterfall. They all look excited about visiting a waterfall.
Details: Most of these men are wearing hats. That is surprising, but I guess back then people loved to wear old fashioned hats. All these men look pretty relaxed and look like they are enjoying their experience.

Description: There are 8 men here. 7 of the men are foreigners. They look like they are observing everything around them.
Details: These men look like they are suspicious and are trying to keep their guard. From their facial expressions they look like they are concerned about something.

Description: These men are probably signing something important. These men are at a council of war, which is a meeting that decides on a course of action. They are probably deciding on something and signing it to confirm
Details: These men look pretty relaxed. They look like they agree with each other and they are on the same page.

Description: These guys look like they are just socializing on a bench. It seems like this is a public place (like a park) where people meet up together.
Details: These men look serious and angry. It seems like it was very hard to be happy at that time. These men traveled by horses because in the back or this picture you can see horses.

Description: This man is a painter according to the picture. He looks fashionably dressed.
Details: I can tell this man has a nice lifestyle. He look wealthy by the way he is dressed. By his face you can tell he is satisfied with being a painter.

Battery at Drill- Army Units Section


Description: There are about 100 people in this picture. Most of them are carrying cannons.
Details: The people used horses as transportation according to this picture. These people seem to be getting ready for war with cannons as their war supplies, and horses as transportation.

Description: There are about 30-40 people in this picture. There are also 3 houses that look like they are made of wood. I am guessing these people share 3 houses
Details: These people are most likely poor, due to the fact that there are about 30 people sharing 3 houses. Also the houses look like they are low quality.

Description: There are 6 men here. They look like they are socializing together.
Details: 5 of them look happy and one of them looks pretty mad. I am guessing they are happy because they are generals and that is a high rank in military.

Description: These people are all sitting on the deck in the ship.
Details: There seems to be only men in the picture. All these men look tired, and weak. They look like they have been through a lot of pain.

Description: There are several men there some standing and some sitting. The men are being treated after being wounded.
Details: The men look in pain. One of the men laying down seems to be critically wounded.

Description: There is a women sitting on a chair with a clock behind her
Details: It looks like the woman is smiling by force.  The clock in the back looks quite odd, and the clothing seems to be different then it is today.

Description: There is a average size railroad that was just built. There is one man outside the railroad and 2 inside.

Interesting Details: The man standing outside looks pretty relaxed.

A regimental fife-and-drum corps- Army Life Section


Description: Men are standing with drums. It seems like this might be a marching band.

Interesting Aspects Details: There is a tent in the back so that is probably where they sleep. One of the guys is holding a stick and two of the guys are not holding anything. They are probably conductors.

"Log Hut Company Kitchen"-Army Life Section



Description: Men are standing, and working with logs. It seems like they are trying to make a fire with the logs.

Interesting Aspects Details: The men look a little tired, one man is holding some tools(maybe a pot).
